Gor Mahia out of CAF Champions League after humiliating 5-1 defeat to Pyramids
By William Muthama, September 13, 2026Gor Mahia crashed out of the CAF Champions League on Sunday, September 13, 2026, after suffering a 5-1 defeat to Egyptian side Pyramids FC in Cairo.
The result eliminated the Kenyan champions 7-1 on aggregate after they lost the first leg 2-0 at Nyayo National Stadium last weekend.
Pyramids opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Walid El-Khati rose highest to head past Bryne Omondi.
Nasser Maher doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 38th minute, finishing a well-worked move inside the Gor Mahia box.
Pyramids added a third in the opening minute of added time through Youssef Obama, who tapped home from a cross.
Gor Mahia responded shortly afterwards, with David Okoth pulling one back in the third minute of stoppage time.
Gor fight back
Gor Mahia returned from the break with renewed energy, keeping possession in midfield and looking for openings through Paul Okoth and Shariff Musa.
Pyramids, however, continued to create chances, with Abdelrahman Magdy missing an opportunity in the 58th minute.
Paul Ochuoga then came to Gor Mahia’s rescue in the 74th minute when he cleared the ball off the line after Obama had beaten Omondi.
Late collapse
Gor Mahia’s hopes of a comeback were finally ended in the 90th minute when Omondi took too long to clear a back pass from Frank Odhiambo.
Mostafa Zico capitalised on the mistake to score into an empty net.
Pyramids added a fifth moments later when Mahmoud Zalaka dribbled past Omondi before finding the net, with Odhiambo’s attempted block unable to keep the ball out.
The 5-1 defeat ended Gor Mahia’s continental campaign, with Pyramids progressing after a 7-1 aggregate victory.
Pyramids will face South Sudanese side El Merriekh Bentiu in the next round.
