Gor Mahia assistant coach explains why clinching FKF Cup is a daunting task
By Luke Oluoch, February 8, 2026Kobi Bismark has explained what it will take for Gor Mahia to clinch the FKF Shield Cup after the team built on their splendid run with a winning start in the knockout competition.
Speaking on Saturday, February 7, 2026, the assistant trainer acknowledged that the performance in Kisumu against Dero FC was an exceptional one under the difficult conditions of a poor surface.
“The pitch today was very difficult to play on. We expected to do better, but the pitch was difficult to play. We are happy we scored the two goals,” his affirmation of the performance went.
Taking each game
He noted that the talk of K’Ogalo going for the Shield title after the 2025 heartbreak can only be sustained by performances on the pitch and not mere wishful thinking.

“We would love to reach the final, but it is not merely about talking. It’s about talking every game with the seriousness it deserves. We don’t know who we have next. We have to prepare well and be able to get the results needed to get there. We believe with good preparations, the results will come,” he stated
Kobi, however, admitted they are in a good position as far as realising their targets for the current season goes.
Quality
He highlighted their unstoppable run in January 2026, which saw K’ Ogalo a perfect record in the FKF PL League
“We have the quality and the squad. Currently, we are also playing well. In January, we won five, drew one, and did not lose any games. We scored about 15 goals and conceded four, so we are doing well as a team,” he added.
The 2025 finalist lost the title to Nairobi United in a shocking 2-1 defeat, sealing a bitter end to their 2025 campaign that saw K’Ogalo fail to deliver the domestic cup and also falter in their quest to defend the league title.
Other FKF PL sides that advanced to the next rounds included Kakamega Homeboyz, who defeated Amani Youth 5-1 to progress.

The 2023 champions rode on Oliver Majaka’s brace to thrash the lower-tier side. Meanwhile, Murang’a Seal also advanced to the round of 32 after routing Kahawa Pride 9-1 in a lopsided encounter.
Posta Rangers and Ulinzi Stars also joined FKF PL rivals on the winning run with wins against Chemongoch and Kamel Park, respectively.
The action will continue this Sunday with AFC Leopards taking on an unbeaten BB Bread FC in the round of 64 tie at Police Sacco Stadium.
The Kayole-based side is currently leading the FKF Nairobi East Regional League Zone A, where they ply their trade against other formidable opponents.
Leading the pile
As per the FKF standings on February 2, 2026, the club has won all its opening six matches of the league and leads the proceedings by a maximum of 18 points.
The feat places them ahead of close rivals and the chasing trio, the Light SC, Maringo United, and Pumwani SC, who have taken to the pitch more times than the log leaders.
Shabana FC and Bandari will also be in action against Commons FC and Githurai AllStars, respectively.
