The Kenya Rugby Union has named Geoffrey Ominde as the assistant coach of the Kenya Lionesses, strengthening the technical bench as the team gears up for a packed international schedule.

Ominde, who is currently part of the coaching staff at Menengai Oilers, comes with extensive experience from both his playing days and his time on the touchline.

Since moving into coaching, he has made a strong impact, helping transform the Oilers into one of the top-performing teams in the Kenya Cup. Under his influence, the club reached last season’s final, an important achievement that highlights his growing reputation in Kenyan rugby.

KRU’s confirmation

In a statement dated Tuesday, May 5, 2026, KRU confirmed his appointment:

”Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Geoffrey Ominde as the Assistant Coach of the Kenya Lionesses,” the statement said in part.

His addition to the Lionesses’ technical team comes at a key moment, with the national side stepping up preparations for the upcoming Africa Women’s Cup.

The Lionesses have established themselves as a powerhouse in African women’s rugby, consistently delivering strong performances on the continent and earning spots in major global competitions.
