FIFA congratulates Gor Mahia for winning FKF PL title
By Luke Oluoch, May 29, 2026Gor Mahia FC has confirmed the receipt of a heartfelt championship acknowledgement from the world football governing body (FIFA) following their confirmation as the new league champion of Kenya’s top-tier league.
In a separate statement on Friday, May 29, 2026, both Gor Mahia and the FKF supremo hailed the letter from FIFA on the former’s confirmation as the new Football Kenya Federation League champions.
“On behalf of the Football Kenya Federation, I acknowledge with gratitude FIFA’s congratulatory message to Gor for winning the SportPesa league,” a statement from FKF president Hussein Mohammed read in part.
Recognition of progress
Mohammed added that the acknowledgement is a strong statement on the global football body of the progress in Kenyan football circles that will reinforce their commitment to bettering the standards of the game locally
“This gesture reflects FIFA’s recognition of the progress being made in Kenyan football. It also reinforces the Federation’s resolve to build a stronger, more competitive league that can consistently produce clubs capable of excelling in Africa,” the FKF chief said.
Proud moment for Gor
On their part, the new champions Gor Mahia also lauded the gesture from FIFA, describing it as a proud moment in the history of the club’s existence.
“A proud moment for us… we are honoured to receive a congratulatory message from FIFA President Gianni Infantino on winning the SportPesa League title. We appreciate the recognition,” Gor said.
In his message, Infantino, through the FKF president, conveyed his congratulations to each and every member of the new champions for the important achievement.

The 2025/26 honours marked a record-breaking 22nd domestic league crown for Gor Mahia, who cemented their dominance in the football league folklore. This comes after K’Ogalo endured a trophyless 2025 season after losing the league crown to Kenya Police FC and the FKF Cup to Nairobi United.
However, in a spirit that has long defined the undying nature of the famous K’Ogalo (Son of Ogalo), famed for his hunting skills and prowess, Gor dominated with peculiar resilience, shrugging off a fierce opposition from AFC Leopards to clinch the league title with two games to go.
