Manchester City reject Premier League Commission findings and vow to appeal

The club issued a statement on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, shortly after the Commission’s opinion was published, expressing its disappointment with the outcome of the long-running case.
Manchester City said it has a substantial body of evidence supporting its position and intends to challenge the findings through the available regulatory and legal channels.
“The Club is innocent of the accusations made by the Premier League and a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence exists in support of all of its positions, relating to this case,” the club said.
“The Club will therefore be relentless, and where necessary proactive, in any and all appropriate regulatory and legal forums.”
City also argued that the Premier League process has not yet been fully concluded, pointing to what it described as significant outstanding elements of the proceedings.
“The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements uncompleted,” the statement added.
“Manchester City FC will now pursue the appeal avenues open to it, on the basis that the opinion contains clear material errors, of law, principle and fact, and is unsafe.”
Man City maintains cooperation
The club further said it had cooperated with the process for eight years while expecting the Premier League’s leadership to operate independently and fairly.
City said it had “diligently respected due process for eight years” on the understanding that the Premier League Board and Executive would act as “an independent, impartial and fair-minded regulator, free from partisan influence.”
The club did not provide further details about the specific grounds of its planned appeal, saying it was restricted in what it could disclose while future proceedings remain ongoing.
The statement comes after the independent Commission delivered its findings in the Premier League’s long-running case involving Manchester City.
City’s response means the legal and regulatory battle is set to continue, with the club maintaining its opposition to the Commission’s conclusions and preparing to use the appeal mechanisms available to it.
