Man City completes signing of England midfielder Elliot Anderson
By Luke Oluoch, July 23, 2026Manchester City has completed the signing of England midfielder Elliot Anderson, who joins the club after an impressive loan spell at Nottingham Forest.
Anderson, who was part of England’s Three Lions World Cup squad, joins on a five-year deal, signing a contract until the summer of 2031.
Career path
He is now England’s second most expensive transfer after the record-breaking fee paid to Aston Villa by Chelsea in the swoop of his fellow international teammate Morgan Rogers on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.
Anderson came through the ranks at Newcastle United, his boyhood club, whom he joined at the age of eight and made his first-team debut in 2021. He was later sold to Forest in 2024 for Ksh5.78 billion
On July 24, 2026, City agreed to a deal with Nottingham Forest to sign the midfielder for a club record of Ksh19.14 billion while he was with England at the World Cup.
He was scheduled to have a medical before completing his move to Etihad Stadium.
International career
The sale to Forest became the star’s breakout moment as he became a regular starter at Forest and helped them qualify for Europe in 2024-25. After being a Scotland youth international, he switched to England’s under-21s in August 2024 before making his senior debut in September 2025.
He has now been capped 17 times and featured in all of the Three Lions’ games at this summer’s World Cup.
The deal comes a day after City also tied down one of its exciting prospects in Phil Foden. The Stockport-born ace signed a new four-year extension that will see him remain at the Etihad Stadium until 2030.
The England international, now 26, has spent his entire football journey with City, having joined the club’s Academy at the age of nine.
Foden proud
Speaking after extending his stay, Foden expressed his pride at continuing his journey with the club he has always supported.
“Committing my future to City means everything to me,” he said.
“Playing for this Club is all I’ve ever wanted to do, and it’s always an honour to wear the shirt.
“It’s not lost on me that I’ve been lucky enough to be part of a historic period with so many titles won, but we’re always looking to the future and trying to win more.
The Manchester club is preparing for a fresh chapter with Enzo Maresca, who returned to the club to succeed Pep Guardiola.
