Isak demands improvement after Liverpool rescue point against Nottingham Forest
By Joel Masibo, August 30, 2026Alexander Isak has admitted Liverpool must improve despite showing character to come from behind twice and secure a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
The Reds found themselves chasing the game after Dan Ndoye gave Forest the advantage during the first half. Liverpool responded after the break, with Isak getting on the scoresheet to bring his side level.
However, Forest regained their lead when Morgan Gibbs-White converted from the penalty spot. Liverpool refused to surrender, and substitute Victor Munoz produced a late equaliser in the 82nd minute to ensure the points were shared.
Isak praised Liverpool’s determination but felt their slow start and failure to capitalise on their momentum remained areas of concern.
Fighting spirit
“I think there’s no problem in fighting spirit and never giving up. I think we showed that last week as well. Obviously we started the game pretty bad today as well. When we gained momentum by scoring a goal, that’s where we need to be better, I think, because again today we conceded quite quickly after that. But from the position we were [in], it’s always good to get something out of the game,” he said.
The striker also reflected on adapting to Andoni Iraola’s methods, stressing that the squad is continuing to work towards fully understanding and executing the manager’s approach.
“It’s been good. There’s always time to get used to a new playing style and a new manager. But we are really working hard to try to play the game he wants us to play and I think when we start doing that better, I have no doubt that the results will come.”
Isak, meanwhile, acknowledged the increased expectations on him to provide goals, particularly given his role as Liverpool’s central striker.
“Yeah, of course. That’s the job ultimately as a striker. Obviously I’m very happy to score the first one and hopefully it just keeps coming.”
Personal target
Rather than setting himself a specific number of goals for the campaign, Isak said his focus is simply on contributing in every match.
“Not really. I think every striker wants to score [in] every game he plays. Obviously that’s difficult but [take] each game at a time.”
The Sweden international also expressed his delight at returning to Anfield and playing in front of Liverpool’s supporters.
“It was amazing. I think our fans were amazing. Really happy to be back here at home and I can’t wait to be back here again.”
Despite Liverpool being forced to settle for a draw, Isak’s goal and Munoz’s late strike ensured the Reds avoided defeat after twice falling behind.
