Collins Sichenje ready for Tottenham test as Charlton take 6,000 fans to Spurs
By Joel Masibo, August 26, 2026Harambee Stars defender Collins Sichenje is relishing the challenge of facing Tottenham Hotspur as Charlton Athletic prepare for a high-profile Carabao Cup second-round clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday evening, August 26, 2026.
The defender featured for Charlton as a substitiute on Saturday, August 22, 2026, coming on to help his side see out a 2-1 win over West Ham at the London Stadium.
“It was a good game for the team and the club, and it is a good motivation for the next one, we are looking forward to it and giving our all,” he said.
“It is hard for the team to go to away games. West Ham you know a club of their calibre and get the three points, it was a real bonus for us. We keep working together, it’s a long season and we need to stick together and help each other.”
Injury setbacks
The centre-back spent the latter stages of last season on the sidelines.
“It’s been a long time, but now I feel better and I feel good. I need to take confidence and momentum going forward.”
“To be honest, I am more confident and more calm, I am used to English football now. I want to do my part whenever I am given the chance and help the team as much as possible.”
“I feel like this is a home for me, it has been an easy transition for me, despite everything that happened, I feel at home and I am ready to give everything.”
Fellow Kenya international Timothy Ouma joined the Addicks during the summer transfer window, arriving on loan from Slavia Prague. The pair have known each other since their youth, and Sichenje admitted that it was nice to have a familar face around Sparrows Lane.
“It has been a plus and bonus for me, it has helped me a lot, to have someone who speaks the same language. I am trying to help him as much as possible so he can adapt to the group, it has been the best feeling for me to have Timothy here,” he said.
“It has been a dream come true, as it would be for everyone to have someone you grew up with and now you are in the some football team. We try to motivate each other.”
Charlton face Spurs in the second round of the Carabao Cup, a tie that the defender is looking forward to.
“It is going to be a good challenge and a good opportunity for ourselves against Premier League proven players. If we do everything right and follow what the coach says and we fight for each other, anything is possible,” he said.
“Every child and every player dreams of these games. It is a game that comes with heaviness and pride.”
The Addicks will be backed by a sold out away end in north London.
“The Charlton fans are amazing. They did a great job at the West Ham game, you could hear them loud in front of the 60,000 fans, no matter how many come, we use their strength and we fight for them, because they deserve it.”
