Bruno Fernandes’ shirt from Ipswich hat-trick fetches nearly Ksh4M at auction
By Joel Masibo, September 17, 2026A signed, match-worn Manchester United shirt belonging to Bruno Fernandes has sold for a staggering £22,549 (about Ksh3.93 million) at auction, following the midfielder’s hat-trick against Ipswich Town on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Old Trafford.
Fernandes wore the shirt during United’s 5-2 victory over Ipswich, a match in which the Portuguese midfielder produced a standout performance by scoring three goals. The shirt was later signed by the United captain before being put up for auction.
The final price was far above the figures fetched by other shirts from the same match.
Kobbie Mainoo’s shirt sold for £2,601 (approximately Ksh454,000), while Marcus Rashford’s shirt attracted a winning bid of £1,933 (around Ksh337,000). Another Mainoo shirt, worn during the first half, went for £1,411 (roughly Ksh246,000).

Fernandes’ shirt therefore commanded a price almost nine times higher than Mainoo’s £2,601 sale, making it the standout item among the shirts auctioned from the fixture.
The extraordinary figure is particularly striking because Manchester United match-worn shirts typically sell for around £1,000, according to reports. Fernandes’ previous shirt from United’s pre-season meeting with Leeds United reportedly sold for £2,896, meaning the Ipswich shirt comfortably surpassed that figure.
The value attached to the shirt appears to be closely linked to the circumstances surrounding it. It was worn during a memorable performance by Fernandes, who scored a hat-trick as United recovered from an early setback to beat Ipswich 5-2.
For the eventual buyer, the purchase represents more than just a Manchester United jersey. It is a match-worn piece connected to a three-goal performance by the club captain, which helps explain why the auction attracted such an unusually high bid.
Still, spending almost Ksh4 million on a football shirt puts the purchase firmly in the category of premium sports memorabilia.
Fernandes honoured
Manchester United’s captain was previously named the English Premier League match-week 2 Player of the Week after scoring a hat-trick against Ipswich.

The recognition came shortly after the Portuguese playmaker was crowned the 2026 PFA Men’s Players’ Player of the Year, beating a strong field that included Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice.
Bruno Fernandes received the prestigious honour at the PFA Awards ceremony in Manchester on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, after being recognised by his fellow professional footballers for his outstanding performances during the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.
The award is particularly significant because the winner is determined through voting by professional players, making it one of the most respected individual accolades in English football.
