Chelsea announce worst-ever pre-tax loss in Premier League history
By Joel Masibo, April 2, 2026Chelsea has revealed the largest pre-tax financial loss ever recorded in the history of the Premier League.
For the financial year ending June 30, 2025, the club reported losses amounting to £262.4 million (Ksh 45. 4 billion), exceeding the previous record of £197.5 million (Ksh34.2 billion) set by Manchester City during the 2010/11 campaign.
Making losses
The club explained that the significant deficit was partly caused by higher operating expenses during the 2024/25 season compared to the previous year.

Despite the heavy losses, Chelsea confirmed that their total income rose to £490.9 million (Ksh 85 billion), making it the second-highest revenue figure in the club’s history. They also anticipate further financial growth in the next reporting period, with projections suggesting revenue could climb to around £700 million (Ksh 91 billion).
This expected increase is linked to substantial earnings from player transfers, which generated £314.4 million (Ksh 54.4 billion) during the summer window, along with additional financial gains from winning the Club World Cup and other competitions.
On the pitch, the Blues are having it rough in the Premier League as Liam Rosenior struggles to steady the ship at Stamford Bridge. Placed sixth on the log with 48 points, Chelsea risk missing out on next season’s UEFA Champions League football with seven matches left until until the end of the current campaign.
The Blues are six points from the Champions League spot. Chelsea will next host Manchester City in a difficult Premier League clash on Sunday, April 12, 2026, aiming to finish the season on a high note.

Fixture rescheduled
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s Premier League fixture against Liverpool, scheduled for May, has been moved to a different date.
The Blues are now set to take on Arne Slot’s team at Anfield on Saturday, May 9, 2026, with kick-off slated for 12:30 pm British Time.
However, if Liverpool overcomes Paris Saint-Germain to reach the Champions League semi-finals, the game will instead begin at 8:00 pm on the same day. The outcome of that European tie, which concludes on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, will determine the final kick-off time for the league encounter at Anfield.
