BB Bread coach explains why slaying Gor Mahia came as no surprise
Minnows BB Bread coach Ajastine Okoba has termed their FKF Cup round of 16 elimination of Gor Mahia as a product of a well-executed pregame strategy.
Speaking on the solitary goal victory against the FKF PL league leaders on Sunday, March 8, 2026, Okoba stated that, unlike many, they were assured of upstaging the fancied top-tier side, coming off a similar giant-slaying run in the round of 64 against AFC Leopards.
Strategy
“Our win might have come as a surprise for many, but not to us. From our plan, we had plans of how to win the game. We knew at the end, Gor would throw everything at us, and we would get some opening from there,” he stated.
His remarks come after the match winner, midfielder Dennis Muthini, also spoke on the secret to the team’s impressive run in the knockout competition that has inspired the giant-killing run.

“We always push ourselves harder with each game and opponent. We entered the competition knowing it wouldn’t be easy, as we would meet such big teams as Leopards and Gor Mahia,” he stated.
Coaches impact
The attacking midfielder also hailed their coach’s input in their giant-killing run, asserting that they hardly could have made the feats without the trainer’s invaluable input.
Fairytale run
“We can only credit our coaches for the game plans and strategies we have used to approach the games.
With the victory securing their berth in the round of 16 games, they will seek to continue their fairy tale run against a host of FKF PL opponents who also advanced to the next round.
Muthini similarly voiced the team’s intention to seal a maiden final appearance in the premier knockout competition after slaying Gor Mahia.
Eyes on the Finals
“For the next game after eliminating Gor and AFC, let us next meet in the finals. We want to make it to the finals and play the deciding game,” he stated.
For Gor, the heartbreaking end sealed a second unsuccessful stab at the cup following the final defeat to Nairobi United in the 2025 finals.
