Ambani raises alarm over AFC Leopards finishing despite win over Sofapaka
By Luke Oluoch, January 26, 2026AFC Leopards coach Fred Ambani has expressed his frustration with his charges’ performance in front of goal despite leading them to another crucial win in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League.
Speaking after a 1-0 victory over the bogey Sofapaka team on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at the Moi Kasarani Stadium, Ambani admitted that the failure to convert chances could pose a major risk to the team’s title prospects.
“We have been working on it. We were to finish this game in the first half, but we wasted plenty of chances, and it remains something of concern. It is an aspect we have to work on, as we have been doing for some time now,” he stated.
The coach opined that a preference by his players to take their chances from inside the box has been a major challenge.
“Yes, the finishing is an aspect we have to be worried about, since not converting the chances when they come your way could turn risky for us,” he added.
In remedying the situation, Ambani has challenged his team to adopt a more ambitious plan and try to take their chances from range.

“One thing, I think my players want to reach inside the box for them to try and apply the finishing touch, but I feel they can also do it from outside the box,” he added.
Leopards keep pressure on Gor Mahia
The title-chasing side managed to keep the pressure on leaders Gor Mahia, who similarly ground out victory against Bidco United, as the FKF Premier League Week 18 games concluded.
Ambani’s charges have managed to grind out results with narrow wins, and some secured late on, such as the win over APS Bomet last time out, proving why the concern remains an issue to redress.
“If we can utilise our chances early on in the games, it can be good to calm our heads and make us even get more goals and improve our team overall,” he added.
With the win, Leopards caught up with Gor Mahia on 36 points on the log, although the former is inferiorly ranked on goal difference.
