AFC Leopards celebrates defender’s newfound scoring exploits

AFC Leopards centre back Emmanuel Lwangu has been a revelation in the FKF Premier League final.

As the Premier League title race enters its homestretch, he has evolved from a reliable backline anchor into Ingwe’s ultimate secret weapon, single-handedly fueling a late-season charge for the crown.

His back-to-back goals in the league came in handy as Fred Ambani’s side maintained their chase of leaders Gor Mahia, who top the standings by just four points. And if scoring at such huge moments comes as a high, the joy multiplied during his recent game back at his home turf in Mumias.

Homecoming

Being watched perhaps by childhood friends with whom he honed his skills together, as well as teammates, Lwangu made the occasion memorable with a towering header that set Leopards on the path to victory.

In a replica of his goal against Mara Sugar, he made a darting run, perfectly capturing James Kinyanjui’s ball trajectory from a corner kick before sending it back to beat the Homeboyz goalkeeper at the far post.

Mother on the stands

What made the victory truly unforgettable was a special guest in the stands. Ingwe later confirmed that Lwangu’s mother, Catherine Khaluhile, was in the crowd watching her son shine.

The club captured the beautiful moment in a heartwarming statement:

“It has been an eventful week for our centre-back Emmanuel Lwangu, scoring in back-to-back matches from identical headers. His goal against Kakamega Homeboyz was special; he did it in front of his mom. Must be special, scoring a goal in a match that your mum is watching.”

Parental support

Lwangu’s family presence continues the beautiful and growing trend of parental devotion in Kenyan football.

Aldrine Kibet and Amos Wanjala’s parents have become a symbol of parental support in Kenyan football.

The Kenya U20 defender Wanjala, a friend and teammate of Kibet from their St. Anthony’s Kitale days, is also someone whose career has been shaped by a mother’s guidance and love.

In a past interview, the Mombasa-born star opened up about the special bond he shares with his beloved mother.
