Why Queen Mary of Denmark is in Kenya
By Ascah Mwango, December 10, 2025Her Majesty Queen Mary of Denmark arrived in Kenya on Tuesday evening for a three-day official visit.
In a statement shared by the State Department of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, officials said she was welcomed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Prime Cabinet Secretary and Minister for Foreign Affairs Musalia Mudavadi, accompanied by Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Rebecca Miano.
“Her Majesty Queen Mary of Denmark has arrived in Kenya for a three-day official visit. She was received at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Tuesday night by Prime Cabinet Secretary and Minister for Foreign Affairs @MusaliaMudavadi, accompanied by Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Rebecca Miano.”
During her stay, the Queen is expected to tour conservation development projects along the Coast that focus on protecting endangered species.
She will also visit several landfills and waste management projects in Nairobi that are leading circular economy initiatives and urban environmental resilience. Her visit comes at a time when Kenya and Denmark are exploring stronger collaboration in renewable energy, climate action, and environmental protection.

“The state visit provides a platform to strengthen Kenya–Denmark collaboration in renewable energy, climate action, and environmental protection. It presents opportunities to explore new areas of partnership and innovation that benefit both nations, particularly in people-centred and sustainable development initiatives. Kenya extends a warm welcome to Her Majesty Queen Mary.”
Queen Mary is also scheduled to participate in the ongoing United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA 7) meeting at the UN Office in Nairobi.
