Weather forecast for Lamu revealed as other coastal regions expect rainfall
By Dan Kauna, September 30, 2026As Kenyans prepare for the massive groundbreaking of the Dangote Refinery in Lamu, the Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a forecast for the day.
In a daily alert, the weatherman predicted that Lamu will experience sunny intervals throughout the day, perfect weather for the groundbreaking of the Dangote Refinery.
Elsewhere, Kenyans across the Coast, Northern region, and Central highlands should prepare for light morning showers, strong surface winds, and cool morning conditions on September 30, 2026, before sunny skies take over most of the country.
According to the Kenya Meteorological Department advisory, sunny conditions will dominate most of the country throughout the day.
The official outlook notes that “majorly sunny intervals expected across the country except Mombasa, Kwale and Kilifi counties that are expected to receive light showers.”
Residents in Mombasa, Kwale, and Kilifi can expect light morning showers over a few places before sunny intervals emerge later in the afternoon.
Strong northern winds
In northern Kenya, the weatherman has issued a warning regarding gusty wind patterns that may impact local activities.
The update states that “strong southerly to southeasterly winds of above 25 knots (12.5m/s) expected over parts of Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit and Isiolo Counties.”
Alongside the wind, northern regions will record high daytime heat. Turkana will experience the highest maximum temperature in the country at 37°C, Mandera will hit 36°C, while Garissa, Wajir, and Isiolo will reach maximum temperatures of 35°C and 32°C respectively.
Cool Nairobi morning and warm inland conditions
Nairobi and neighbouring highland counties, including Kiambu, Nyeri, and Kajiado, will begin the morning with cloudy skies breaking into sunny intervals.
Daytime temperatures in the capital city will reach 28°C, while overnight minimum temperatures will drop to 13°C. Nyandarua County will record the lowest overnight temperature in the country at 10°C, with Machakos following closely at 11°C.
For capital city residents planning their routines, sunrise in Nairobi will be at 6:19 am and sunset will occur at 6:26 pm.
Across the Lake Victoria Basin and Western Kenya, sunny intervals will prevail through the morning and afternoon. Daytime highs in Kisumu, Migori, and Tharaka-Nithi will reach 33°C, while Busia and Taita Taveta will see maximum temperatures of 32°C.
Kakamega, Bungoma, and Siaya will record maximum temperatures of 31°C, while Nakuru and Narok will remain at 28°C.
The forecast indicates a generally dry and warm day for most parts of the country, outside of localised coastal rainfall and northern wind gusts.
