War on drugs intensifies as police make more seizures

Police officers in two separate operations intercepted large quantities of Cannabis Sativa as the war on drugs and traffickers intensifies.

In Meru’s Tigania East Sub-County, officers from Muthara Police Station disrupted a drug trafficking operation late last night.

In a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the interception occurred when the police attempted to stop a motorcycle rider transporting a substantial 30kg stash of Cannabis sativa.

The police officers stated that the rider tried to escape despite being told to stop, which resulted in them firing warning shots to disrupt the rider’s movements. This caused the rider to lose balance and abandon the illegal goods, fleeing on foot.

“Muthara Police Station officers in Meru’s Tigania East Sub-County last night botched a drug trafficking operation, after intercepting a motorcycle rider with a 30kg stash of Cannabis sativa. In the 1am incident, the rider ignored orders to stop and revved on, before a gunshot that rented the air interfered with his balance forcing him to abandon his tools of trade and scamper on foot. The motorcycle reg. no. KMFT 893P make Dayun was impounded, alongside two gunny bags containing 6 bales of the illegal herb,” the DCI said in a statement.

The motorcycle, bearing registration number KMFT 893P and make by Dayun, was impounded along with two gunny bags containing six bales of the illegal substance.

War on drugs

Simultaneously, in Nyamira’s Borabu Sub-County, police stationed at Matutu Police Station conducted a successful operation along the Keroka-Sotik highway.

During a routine snap roadblock, officers seized five sacks of Cannabis sativa.

The operation resulted in the apprehension of a man and a woman, who were later detained in police cells.

The suspects, identified as Samuel Omondi Audi (29) and Judith Kerubo (29), were found transporting the contraband in a Nissan Tiida with registration number KBY 435M.

The authorities stated that the confiscated goods are valued at approximately Ksh5 million.

“Nyamira’s Borabu Sub-County, police based at Matutu Police Station who had mounted a snap roadblock along Keroka – Sotik highway seized five sacks of the same drug, in an operation that left a man and a woman in police cells. In the operation spearheaded by the area Sub-County Police Commander, a Nissan Tiida http://Reg.No. KBY 435M driven by Samuel Omondi Audi, 29 in company of Judith Kerubo (also 29) was flagged down, and upon search the cargo estimated at a street value of Sh5 million was discovered,” the statement read further.

Legal proceedings against the suspects have been initiated.

The Sub-County Police Commander emphasized the nationwide campaign against drug abuse and trafficking.

The DCI has urged the public to continue providing information on drug traffickers.

Additionally, individuals were advised to refrain from engaging in any drug-related activities to avoid legal repercussions.
