Tuesday blackout to affect parts of Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu and other towns
By Dan Kauna, September 21, 2026Kenya Power has issued a notice regarding planned power interruptions scheduled for Tuesday, September 22, 2026. The electricity distributor announced that several regions across the country will experience temporary outages to allow for crucial routine system maintenance.
In an official updates post published on X, the utility firm stated, “The interruption is part of network maintenance. We regret any inconvenience that may occur during the operations”.
Most affected areas will experience outages starting from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, though some regions will see blackouts from as early as 8.00 am.
Nairobi, Mt. Kenya, and Coast regions affected
In Nairobi Region, residents living along parts of Karen Bogani Road, including Kumbe Road, Baobab Estate, and nearby customers, will be without power between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm.
Parts of Gachie, including Waiver Bird, Kinanda Road, Kihara Road, and surrounding areas, will also be affected during the same timeframe.
Across the Mt. Kenya Region, the Tree Tops area in Nyeri County will face blackouts affecting Expages, Mweiga Mary Immaculate Hospital, Sasini Estate, Njengu, Waihenya Estate, and Mweiga Estate Water Pump.
In Embu County, power will be shut off in Mutuobare and Kiambere, affecting St. Kizito Primary, Karura, Gatete, Rutumbi, Gwakarigo, Isacco, Ceria, Tarda Farm, Kiambere Police, Kiambere Staff Camp, Kiambere Power Station, and Kiambere Complex.
Coastal counties will also experience shutdowns. In Kilifi County, parts of Mariakani, such as Msumbini Village, Mariakani Town, Mariakani Market, Mariakani Police, 15th and 77th Battalions, and Airforce, will be off power from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
In Mombasa County, Jomvu areas including Ufuta, Weldcom, Southern Shipping, KTDA Miritini, Crown, Petrocity Jomvu, and Aldina will face similar interruptions.
Outages in Rift Valley, Western, and Eastern areas
Residents in North Rift Region will also need to plan ahead. Parts of Uasin Gishu County, including Kapkoi and Bayete, will experience outages from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
Affected locations include Cheptiret Primary, Kapkoiga, Kerita, Koiluget, Rorigi, Ndungulu, Megun, Chelalachibei, Kapkeno, Ndanai, Tarakwa, Burnt Forest, Kondoo, and Cherus.
In Western Kenya, Kisumu County will see blackouts around Guba Market, specifically covering Wathorego Market, Alango Market, and adjacent customers.
Meanwhile, in North Eastern Region, parts of Kiambu County, including Lower Kabete Market, Kingeero, Kingeero Mwisho, Whitehouse, and Ndongoro, will have no power from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
In Kitui County, areas such as Migwani Town, Kithaunani, Thokoa, Musuani, Kanyekini, Kitumbi, Mukuuni, Nzeluni, Kyome, and Mbau will be affected from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm.
Kenya Power has urged residents to check their online portal or contact their interactive customer care assistant for updated schedules.
