Traffic advisory: Nairobi routes expected to experience congestion ahead of Linda Mwananchi rally
By Katemarthason Okudo, September 13, 2026Several roads in Nairobi are expected to experience increased traffic on Sunday, September 13, 2026, as the Linda Mwananchi movement holds a major political gathering at Jacaranda Grounds in Embakasi East.
The movement has spent the past several days mobilising supporters across the capital ahead of the rally, which is expected to bring together opposition supporters and leaders.
The Nairobi tour will begin at All Saints Cathedral at 9 am with a church service before the movement heads to some of the city’s busy markets and neighbourhoods.
Routes expected to experience increased traffic
From All Saints Cathedral, the movement is expected to head to Marikiti and Gikomba markets before proceeding to Burma Market. The itinerary will then take supporters to Stage 17, B Centre and Manyanja before a procession along Jogoo Road.
The tour is scheduled to end at Jacaranda Grounds in Embakasi East at around 2 pm, where Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is expected to address a rally alongside other Linda Mwananchi leaders.
The Linda Mwananchi movement is expected to affect traffic flow along Jogoo Road, Mombasa Road, Outering Road and Thika Road.
It is also expected to spill over to North Airport Road, Manyanja Road and surrounding areas.
Besides traffic disruptions, businesses in various parts within Jacaranda are expected to be disrupted as Linda Mwananchi leaders stage the mega rally in the city.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino is among the leaders expected to attend the gathering. Motorists using the affected roads have been advised to plan their journeys early as the movement of supporters and vehicles could lead to delays along the route.
Linda Mwananchi steps up Nairobi mobilisation
The Nairobi mobilisation comes as Sifuna seeks to expand Linda Mwananchi beyond its growing support base and show that the movement can attract a significant political following in the capital.
Nairobi has traditionally been viewed as an opposition stronghold, making the rally an important event for the movement as it builds its support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Sifuna has called on his supporters to turn up in large numbers, with his allies describing the gathering as the “mother of all rallies” for the Nairobi senator.
In a message shared on social media, Sifuna described Sunday’s programme as a combination of prayer and political mobilisation while urging supporters not to miss the event.
“Programme ya Sunday ni fupi sana… kwanza maombi ndio Mungu aongezee mahasidi na wale wa roho mbaya confusion… alafu tuingie kiwanja pale Jacaranda. Excuse yako ni gani?” Sifuna said.
Youth league arrives ahead of rally
Members of the Linda Mwananchi Youth League have arrived at All Saints Cathedral ahead of the rally as preparations for the gathering gathered pace. The group declared that it was ready to proceed to Jacaranda Grounds as the movement continued its mobilisation in the capital.
The arrival of the youth league comes as Linda Mwananchi leaders continue to rally their supporters ahead of Sunday’s event.
Leaders warn against disruption
Linda Mwananchi leaders have also warned government-aligned politicians against attempting to disrupt the Nairobi rally.
Speaking on Saturday, September 12, the leaders urged supporters to attend the event in large numbers while calling on security authorities to ensure the gathering proceeds peacefully.
The Jacaranda rally comes amid increased political activity in Nairobi, with Linda Mwananchi leaders dismissing claims of divisions within the movement.
The movement has continued with its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election, with Sifuna and other opposition leaders presenting it as a platform for political change, accountability and citizen participation.
With the rally expected to draw supporters from different parts of Nairobi, motorists using the affected routes are likely to encounter delays as the procession makes its way from the city centre to Jacaranda Grounds.
