Sunny conditions are expected to dominate across most parts of the country on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, as the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) released its latest daily weather forecast.

In an update issued, Kenya Met said large sections of the country will experience dry and bright conditions, with rainfall limited to a few isolated areas.

Limited rainfall areas

According to the forecast, parts of the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and sections of the Rift Valley may receive light showers, mainly during the night.

Counties expected to experience isolated rainfall include Narok and Migori, where occasional showers and thunderstorms could develop before clearing by morning.

The South Eastern Lowlands are also expected to see brief rainfall in a few areas. Counties listed under this region include Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, though Kenya Met noted that sunshine will still dominate for most of the day.

For residents of the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, the day is expected to start with cloudy conditions in the morning before giving way to sunny intervals later in the day.

Similar weather is forecast for Nyeri, Murang’a, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Embu, Meru, Laikipia and Nyandarua counties.

Strong winds warning

The North Eastern and North Western regions, covering counties such as Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Isiolo, Turkana and Samburu, are expected to remain largely dry with sunny intervals throughout the day.

However, Kenya Met has warned of strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots over parts of Turkana and Marsabit counties, which could impact transport and outdoor activities.

Along the coastal region, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu and Tana River, partly cloudy conditions are expected at night, followed by sunny intervals during the day.

Kenya Met advised members of the public, especially those in wind-prone areas and regions expecting rainfall, to remain alert and take necessary precautions.

The department noted that while sunshine will dominate nationally, localised weather changes may still occur.
