Sorrow in Nyamira as matatu collides with trailer, leaving several people dead
By William Muthama, December 14, 2025Several people are feared dead following a grisly road accident involving a public service vehicle and a trailer along the Kericho–Nyamira Road in Nyamira County.
The crash occurred on Saturday night, December 13, 2025, at around 9 pm in the Tombe Borani area, leaving passengers trapped in the wreckage as rescue teams rushed to the scene.
The matatu and the trailer are reported to have collided head-on under circumstances that are still under investigation.
According to eyewitnesses, the trailer was travelling from Ekirenyo while the matatu was headed from Ikonge when the collision occurred.

The impact left the matatu badly damaged, with debris scattered across the road, forcing motorists to slow down as emergency responders worked to rescue survivors.
Following the accident, several passengers who sustained serious injuries were rushed to Nyamira County Referral Hospital for treatment.
Governor consoles families
Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo visited the injured at Nyamira County Referral Hospital and extended his condolences to the families affected by the crash.
“It was quite unfortunate for those who lost their lives. I know families are crying. Some are parents, some are kids. We stand with you during this hard time,” he said.

The governor also announced that the county government would support the affected families, including helping to organise burials for those who lost their lives in the crash.
He urged residents to remain calm as authorities continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the collision.
Rising road deaths
The Nyamira crash adds to a growing list of road accidents reported across the country in recent weeks, raising renewed concerns over road safety as Kenyans travel during the busy festive season.
The National Transport and Safety Authority has previously warned that road crashes tend to increase during the Christmas and New Year period, urging drivers to exercise caution, observe speed limits, and avoid dangerous overtaking.
Road users have once again been advised to remain vigilant, as authorities intensify calls for responsible driving to prevent further loss of life on Kenyan roads.
The crash comes just hours after former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo died in a road accident along the busy Nairobi–Nakuru Highway.
