Relief for Ahmednasir as Supreme Court lifts ban

By , January 23, 2026

The Supreme Court has vacated the ban against Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi, giving him another chance to practise.

Ahmednasir had been banned from practising over his conduct that was seen as undermining the judges.

The ban has been lifted after Senior Counsel Paul Muite and Fred Ngatia made an application stating that Ahmednasir is committed to refraining from future attacks on judges.

In the ruling delivered on Friday, January 23, 2026, the Supreme Court judges stated that their decision came after considering the oral application and attendant submissions, urging us to vacate the order that barred Ahmednasir and his law firm on January 23, 2024.

Further, the judges noted that they are convinced the Senior Counsel has reformed for the two years he has been banned from appearing before the Supreme Court.

“We acknowledge the fact that given the grave nature of the matters that gave rise to the issuance of the order in question, also noting that a period of two years has lapsed, we are persuaded that Mr Ahmednasir Abdullahi SC has had an opportunity to introspect and determine his relationship with this Court going forward,” the judges ruled.

Notably, the court stated that the sanction they had issued against Senior Counsel Ahmednasir was dictated by the need to protect the authority and dignity of the court, and they have no reason at this moment to doubt the assurances given to the court by his lawyers that he will uphold the decorum and dignity of this court.

 Relief

The vacation of the ban is a relief to Ahmednasir, as the court now has allowed him, an employee of his law firm, or any other person to hold his brief before the Supreme Court.

“As a consequence of the foregoing observations, it is our determination that Senior Counsel, Mr Ahmednasir Abdullahi, an employee of his law firm, any other person holding his brief, or acting pursuant to his instructions, may from the date of this ruling appear and practice before the Supreme Court of Kenya and specifically in respect of the proceedings herein,” the judges ruled.
