Rain expected across most of Kenya on Tuesday with only 2 counties remaining dry
By William Muthama, March 3, 2026The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has warned that rainfall is expected in many parts of the country on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
According to its daily report, rain will affect most counties, with only Mandera and Wajir expected to remain largely dry.
Western highlands rain
Counties expected to receive rain include Kakamega, Vihiga, Busia, Bungoma, Kisumu, Kisii, Nyamira, Migori, Siaya, Homa Bay, Kericho, Nandi, Bomet, Nakuru, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Trans-Nzoia, and Narok.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected tonight and in the afternoon, with sunny intervals in some places in the morning.
Eastern highlands showers
Rain is forecast in Nyeri, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Embu, Meru, Kiambu, Tharaka Nithi, Laikipia, Nyandarua, and Nairobi.

Cloudy conditions will break into sunny intervals in the morning, while afternoon thunderstorms are predicted across several locations.
Coast and lowlands
Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Taita Taveta, and Kajiado will experience scattered showers and thunderstorms tonight and in the afternoon, with light morning rains in some areas.
Along the coast, Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Tana River will have partly cloudy skies with a chance of light showers tonight, followed by sunny intervals in the morning and scattered afternoon showers, particularly along the southern coast.
“Mainly partly cloudy conditions with a chance of Showers over a few places are expected tonight. Showers are expected in a few places in the morning. Showers expected over a few places in the afternoon (S. Coast).”The weatherman stated.
Northwestern counties of Turkana and Samburu will mostly have partly cloudy skies, though Samburu may see a few afternoon showers.
Northeastern counties of Marsabit, Garissa, Isiolo, Mandera, and Wajir are expected to have sunny intervals. Strong southeasterly winds above 25 knots (12.5 m/s) will be experienced in Turkana and Marsabit, which may affect small aircraft and boats.
