Police recover 25kgs of bhang in Bungoma
By Nancy Marende, December 15, 2025Police in Bungoma South Sub-County have recovered approximately 25 kilograms of bhang in a renewed crackdown on illicit drugs in the region.
In a statement on Monday, 15, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) announced that the seizure was made during a routine search of a public service vehicle at Bungoma Police Station, where officers discovered a sack containing the suspected cannabis sativa hidden among passengers’ luggage.

“Earlier today, during a routine search of a public service vehicle at Bungoma Police Station, officers recovered a sack containing approximately 25 kilograms of suspected cannabis sativa concealed among passengers’ luggage,” read the statement in part.
One person of interest was arrested at the scene and is currently being held in police custody pending further investigations and arraignment in court.
The recovered narcotics have been secured as an exhibit to aid ongoing investigations.
“The National Police Service remains steadfast in its commitment to combating drug trafficking and related criminal activities to protect communities from the harmful effects of narcotics,” NPS added.

Griftu town
This comes a few days after a 32-year-old man was arrested on Monday after police found him in possession of 3 kilograms of bhang in Griftu Town.
According to a statement shared by the National Police Service (NPS) on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, officers from Griftu Police Station received a tip-off about a suspicious individual in the area at around 3:30 pm. Acting swiftly, the officers went to the location and apprehended the individual.

During a search at the scene, the police discovered a green plant substance believed to be bhang, weighing approximately 3 kilograms. The man was taken to Griftu Police Station and is currently in custody, awaiting arraignment in court.
The NPS said the arrest is part of ongoing efforts to fight drug trafficking in the country. They emphasised that their commitment to protecting communities from illegal narcotics remains strong and that they will continue taking action against those involved in the trade of illegal drugs.
“Yesterday, at approximately 1530hrs, police officers from Griftu Police Station received intelligence regarding a suspicious individual in Griftu Town. Acting promptly, officers attended the location and apprehended a 32-year-old man. A search conducted at the scene revealed a quantity of green plant substance, suspected to be Cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 3 kilograms,” the statement read in part.
