Nelson Havi: Why can’t Oketch Salah speak about his mother and father?
By Charles Ouma, January 29, 2026Senior Counsel Nelson Havi has waded into the controversy surrounding Oketch Salah, giving his take on what he should focus on.
In a statement on his X account, Havi questioned why Salah, who has in the past claimed to be Raila Odinga’s adopted son, should continue giving accounts that contradict those of people speaking about their father.
He also questioned why Oketch Salah, who has in the past alleged to be in a close relationship with Raila Odinga, cannot speak about his mother and father instead.
“Why can’t Oketch Salah speak about his mother and father instead of contradicting those speaking about their father?” Havi asked.
Nobody really knows Salah – Winnie Odinga
Salah found himself in the eye of the storm after Raila Odinga’s daughter, Winnie Odinga, dismissed him as a serial liar.
In an interview with a local TV station on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Winnie warned Kenyans to believe him at their own risk.
Despite Salah claiming a very close relationship with Raila, one which under normal circumstances should be well known to the family, Winnie set the record straight, asserting that “nobody really knows him.”
She questioned Salah’s intention after he surfaced with his version of events, claiming to have been with Raila Odinga from the beginning of his illness until his final moments.
“I have met Oketch Salah, but I’d like to believe nobody really knows him. A flat-out lie that you were there at the time of my father’s death and you were not, and talking about things that did not occur, is quite dangerous and makes me question his intentions,” Winnie said.
Emergence of Oketch Salah
According to Winnie, Salah should be rushed to Mathare or to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
“He should be rushed to either Mathare or DCI with immediate effect,” she added.
Salah emerged into the limelight towards the final days of the former Prime Minister, posting photos and videos taken in the company of the former leader.
He alleged a close relationship with the family, attracting public attention in the days that followed Raila’s demise.
Salah also waded into the controversy surrounding the political direction of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), alleging a private conversation with Raila before death struck.
