Nakuru Boda Boda leaders decry rise of goons purporting to be riders

Nakuru County Boda Boda leaders have called on the security agencies to take action on the goons disguised as boda boda operators who torched a bus in Salgaa on Sunday.

Speaking in Nakuru on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, the County Chairman, Samwel Munyiri, and Spokesman, Stephen Mwanda, said that the incident is regrettable and should be treated as a criminal incident.

Mwanda said that they are working closely with the local security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators who were involved are brought to book.

“Those who did the act should be treated as criminals, and we want the security to track them down and arrest them,” he said.

Munyiri said that there is a concern of boda boda riders riding all the way from the capital city to their respective rural homes during this Christmas season to beat the high cost of fares.

He said that some of them get fatigued along the way and thus pose danger on the roads if not addressed.

“We have noted a sizeable number of boda bodas plying the highway to the upcountry; we are concerned about covering such long distances with pillion passengers and goods, as they may get fatigued,” he said.

Unknown people donning Boda Boda clothes torched a bus belonging to Mash Poa after it was alleged to have knocked down one of their members and killed them.

This comes just a day after an Eldoret-bound bus operated by Mash Poa was set ablaze by Boda Boda riders after it was involved in an accident that killed a rider.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, December 22, 2025, at Salgaa along the Nakuru–Eldoret highway, leaving hundreds of motorists and passengers stranded in traffic.

According to eyewitnesses, angry Boda Boda operators torched the bus following the fatal accident involving one of their colleagues. All passengers aboard the bus, however, escaped unhurt.
