Nairobi Water announces supply resumption after 26-hour interruption
By Cynthia Lodite, September 12, 2026The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd has announced the resumption of water supply across Nairobi after a 26-hour emergency shutdown of the Sasumua Water Treatment Plant.
Confirming the end of the maintenance exercise in an official statement posted on X on Saturday September 12, 2026, the utility firm noted, “We are pleased to inform our customers that following the completion of emergency repairs along the Sasumua–Kabete pipeline, the water supply has now been restored.”

The company has further acknowledged the public’s cooperation during the repair process.
“We sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding while our teams worked to resolve this issue,” Nairobi Water added.
26-hour supply interruption
The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd had announced a scheduled shutdown of the Sasumua Water Treatment Plant to facilitate emergency repair works along the Sasumua-Kabete pipeline.
The shutdown took place from Friday, September 11, 2026, at 6 am and was scheduled to run till Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 8 am.
At the time, the company advised customers in the affected areas to store adequate water in advance and use available supplies sparingly during the shutdown.
In Westlands and Lavington, affected areas included Riverside Drive, Chalbi Drive, Convent Drive, Gitanga Road, Kunde Road, Hedred, Mbaazi, Masanduku, Leloghi Gardens, Ole Ndume Road, King’ara Road, Riara Road and surrounding areas.
In Kileleshwa, the interruption affected Kandara Road, Gichugu Road, Mazeras Road, Mbooni Road, Othaya Road, Kaputei, Laikipia Road, Githunguri, DoD, St George’s School, Tembere Road and surrounding areas.
The University of Nairobi and Valley Road areas will also be affected, including the University of Nairobi main campus and customers along the Mamlaka Line and Valley Road.
Other affected areas
In Kilimani and Hurlingham, affected areas included Argwings Kodhek Road from Chaka Road to Hurlingham, Hurlingham Shopping Centre and surrounding areas, Mtito Andei Road, Kindaruma Road, Rose Avenue, Lower George Padmore Road, Daystar University, Denis Pritt Road, Coptic Hospital and surrounding areas.
In Upper Hill, the affected areas were Matumbato, Kiambere, Masaba areas, Mawenzi Road, parts of Hospital Road, Kenya Road, Elgon Road, Kenyatta National Hospital and KEMRI Flats along Mbagathi Way.
In Dagoretti, Kawangware and Waithaka, the interruption will affect Lower Gitanga Road, parts of Kawangware, Sunset Estate, Sohill City Estates, Kagira, Kagondo, Muhuri Road, Upper Kabiria, Mithonge, Kamwanya, Kahuho Road, Ngina Road, Kikuyu Road, Waithaka, Ndwaru Road, Upper Waithaka, Gachui, Kirigo, Dagoretti Market and Mariguini.
In Uthiru, Mutuini and Gatina, affected areas included Uthiru Muthua area, Muchugia Road, Mutego, Mutuini and surrounding areas, as well as Gatina and its surrounding areas.
The Jamhuri, Kabarnet and Kenyatta Market vicinity will also be affected, including Bishop Magua, Kabarnet Road, parts of Joseph Kang’ethe Road, Muchai Drive from Ngong Road to Mbaruk Road, Jamhuri Estate, Upper Hill areas, Kenyatta National Hospital, KEMRI Offices, Highview 1 and 2, Kenyatta Market and surrounding areas.
In Kibera and surrounding areas, affected locations included Makina, Karanja Road and surrounding areas, Fort Jesus, Olympic, Kibera Kianda, parts of Gatwekera, parts of Ayany, Kibera Mwembeni, Makongeni environs, Kwa DC, Lindi, KEMRI Flats along Mbagathi Way and Highrise Estate.
In Kang’ethe and Togo Flats, the affected areas were Kinoo Road/Joseph Kang’ethe Junction to Togo Flats and Kang’ethe Greens Upper Flats.
