Mtoto ni malaika! Mosiria hunts for woman who dumped newborn baby in Dagoretti

Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, is searching for a woman who abandoned a newborn baby in Dagoretti.
Mosiria shared details of the incident on his X account on Thursday, February 4, 2026, after receiving a distress call from a children’s home in Dagoretti that supports abandoned and orphaned children.
According to the information he shared, the baby had been left shortly after birth and was found in a shopping bag.
The county official expressed deep concern over the incident, terming it heartbreaking and unacceptable. He noted that carrying a pregnancy for nine months only to abandon a child immediately after birth shows a serious disregard for life and the well-being of the child.
“Ni uchungu sana mtu kumzaa mtoto baada ya kumbeba miezi tisa alafu umtupe pamoja na placenta. Unamweka kwa bag unaenda unamtupa. It is so painful. Nimepigiwa simu kwamba mathe pale dagoretti home ambayo inasupport watoto ambao hawana wazazi. Kama unajua mama ambaye alipata mtoto na hana uyo mtoto na hana mimba, tafadali tusaidie ili achukuliwe hatua,” Mosiria stated.
Mosiria appealed to members of the public to help identify the mother, especially anyone who may know a woman who recently gave birth but no longer has the baby. He said the aim is not just to take action, but also to ensure the child receives proper care and protection under the law.
He also used the moment to urge women facing unplanned or difficult pregnancies to seek help instead of abandoning children. Mosiria reminded the public that hospitals, children’s homes, and rescue centres are available options for mothers who feel unable to raise a child.
“Mbona ubebe mimba alafu ukuje kuua ama kutupa mtoto. mtoto mzuri, mtoto ni malaika. You might be killing the best surgeon, president, mtoto ni blessing. Na kama hutaki mtoto, mpeleke kwa homes, hospital uache uko. Naomba msaidie uyo mtoto, kidogo ambacho mtaweza,” Mosiria added.
