Matiang’i reacts to report of intruder breaking into Murkomen’s office
By Charles Ouma, January 26, 2026Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’I has reacted to media reports indicating that an intruder broke into Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen’s office.
In an interview with Kameme FM’s Gatonye Wa Mbugua on Monday, January 26, 2026, Matiang’i noted that the incident raises serious questions about leadership, accountability and national security.
He also questioned how the unidentified man accessed the building, which houses several government offices and went undetected during his stay within the premises that spanned five hours.

“How can someone break into the Office of the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and stay there for five hours? This raises serious questions about leadership, accountability, and national security,” Matiangi stated.
Security situation at Nyayo House
Matiang’i, who once served in the docket currently held by Murkomen, explained that visitors at the heavily-guarded building are screened at the gate, with additional clearances and screening done before accessing the building and before getting into the lifts.
“Unajua mimi nlikuwa huko (You know I was at Nyayo House),” Matiang’i stated, adding that Nyayo House has about five rings of security, with clearance needed at multiple stages.
He explained that upon exiting the lift on any floor, police officers receive visitors who are expected to explain the purpose of their visit, whom they want to see and provide the necessary clearances.
Requesting not to comment on the matter further, Matiangi noted that the breach is a very shameful occurrence that left him confused as whetherto be angry or sad.
“Ni jambo la aibu ya ajabu…Tafadhali tuheshimu akili ya wananchi tunaowaongoza. (It is very shameful…As leaders, let us respect the intellect of the people we lead),” he added.
Matiang’i followed up with a brief statement on X, attaching the newspaper headline covering the incident while sharing his questions publicly.
