Kenya Rugby Union has addressed public concern after an incident involving a media representative and security personnel during the HSBC SVNS Series at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, 15 February 2026.

The union said it is aware of the incident and the footage circulating online.

“We acknowledge the public concern arising from footage circulating online and take the matter seriously,” KRU said in a statement issued in Nairobi on Tuesday, 17 February 2026.

KRU said the HSBC SVNS tournaments operate under strict event management and safeguarding rules. The union said it is committed to delivering international standard tournaments that focus on athlete welfare, spectator safety, and proper working conditions for accredited media. KRU said safety measures are in place to protect all participants at the venue.

The union explained that restricted zones are set around the field of play, medical areas, ambulances, and player recovery spaces. These areas are protected to allow medical care to take place without disruption and to keep the competition fair. KRU said access to these zones is limited to authorised and properly accredited personnel.

Media access and restricted zones

KRU said media access at the event is handled through a formal accreditation system. The system defines where media teams are allowed to work during the tournament.

“All media representatives are required to comply with venue access guidelines and follow instructions issued by event security personnel,” KRU said.

The union added that these rules apply to all accredited personnel at the venue.

According to preliminary information, an individual entered a restricted zone near the track and medical area without the required clearance. KRU said security personnel moved in to enforce the access rules.

“Security personnel intervened to enforce established access protocols,” the union said.

During the interaction, a physical confrontation took place.

KRU said it does not support excessive force in any situation and added that the incident is now under review.

“The matter is currently under review by event security providers, KRU, and the relevant authorities to establish a full and verified account of events,” KRU said.
