Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi’s assets freeze extended

A Nairobi Anti-Corruption High Court has extended orders issued restraining the Kiambu County Governor Kimani Wamatangi, his wife, children and others from accessing monies in five different accounts.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has sued Wamatangi, his wife, his children and 10 others over a graft case of Ksh813 million.

Appearing before Lady Justice Wilfrida Okwany on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, the EACC requested the court to extend the conservatory orders restraining the respondents pending the hearing and determination of a suit that has been filed.

Justice Okwany extended the orders until March 17, 2026, and directed parties to exchange submissions in 14 days.

“The extension of the orders sought is hereby granted and will last until March 17, 2026; meanwhile, parties are to exchange submissions on the injunction application, with 14 days granted to each,” said Justice Okwany.

The Nairobi Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Division on January 15, 2026, froze bank accounts of Kiambu Governor Wamatangi over a graft case.

The accounts will remain frozen pending the hearing and determination of a suit that has been filed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

Through a notice of motion application dated November 4, 2025, EACC sought an injunction against monies in bank accounts held by companies associated with Wamatangi.

“That pending the hearing and determination of this application, this honourable court be pleased to grant an order of injunction prohibiting the respondents, their agents, servants or any other persons from withdrawing, transferring, disposing, wasting and/or in any other way dealing with funds in bank account number:

Account No. 046000028901 at Family Bank in the name of King Construction Company Limited

Account No. 015000004109 at Family Bank in the name of King Group Company Limited

Account No. 046000012937 at Family Bank in the name of King Realtors Limited

Account No. 046000029171 at Family Bank in the name of Quick Fix Auto Garage Limited

‘Account No. 046000028902 at Family Bank in the name of Lub Plus Oil and Energy Company Limited’, part of the orders sought, read.

However, the court has closed a file where the EACC sued King Group Limited, associated with Governor Wamatangi.

EACC had sought orders under section 56 of the ACECA preserving monies held in various bank accounts at Family Bank in the name of companies associated with Wamatangi.

While closing the file, Judge Musyoki directed that it would not be proper to grant orders in the matter since similar orders have been sought in the main suit.

The matter will be mentioned on March 17, 2026, before Justice Musyoki.
