Kericho family breaks silence after accident left 5 members dead

A family in deep mourning has spoken out after a tragic road accident claimed the lives of five of their loved ones, who were rushing to respond to a robbery at one of their shops.

The devastating crash occurred on the evening of December 24, 2025, as the family members hurried to their retail shop located in a nearby town after receiving a distress call that it was under attack by suspected robbers.

According to surviving relatives and a family spokesperson, the five were in a private vehicle and had left in haste, hoping to reach the scene in time to stop further losses. Sadly, the vehicle collided head-on with a lorry.

Bodies of the deceased were taken to Lodiani Mortuary, while the wreckage of both cars was ferried to a Kericho Police Station.

NTSA report on December accidents

The accident comes just a day after the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) issued a new report highlighting an increase in road accidents while flagging drink driving as among the top safety violations during the festive season.

In a press release on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, NTSA announced that in one day twenty-five deaths were reported across various parts of the country.

The authority has confirmed that the accidents occurred in counties including Kakamega, Bungoma, Nakuru, Nyeri, Siaya, Kiambu, Nairobi, Machakos, Narok, Kisii, Turkana, and Uasin Gishu.

“We regret to confirm that fatal road traffic crashes have been reported across various parts of the country, including Kakamega, Bungoma, Nakuru, Nyeri, Siaya, Kiambu, Nairobi, Machakos, Narok, Kisii, Turkana, and Uasin Gishu Counties,” NTSA said.

In addition, the authority confirmed that the accidents that occurred on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, had at least sixteen crashes reported, with most victims being pedestrians and passengers.

“Tragically, on 23 December 2025 alone, 16 crashes were recorded, resulting in 25 lives lost. “Most of the victims were pedestrians (8), followed by passengers (8), motorcyclists (5), pillion passengers (3), and one driver,” NTSA said.
