Kenya Railways announces extra train services for Nairobi-Mombasa route

Kenya Railways has announced additional special train services on the Nairobi-Mombasa route on August 31 and September 1, 2026.

In a public notice issued on Monday, August 31, 2026, the railway operator said the additional services will be available for booking, urging passengers to make their reservations early.

“Kenya Railways wishes to inform members of the public that additional special train services will be available for booking on August 31, 2026, and September 1, 2026. Passengers are encouraged to make their bookings early and take advantage of the additional train services,” Kenya Railways said.

Additional train services

According to Kenya Railways, on Monday, August 31, a special train will depart from the Mombasa Terminus at 8:40 p.m while on Tuesday, September 1, Kenya Railways will operate two additional services, with one departing from the Nairobi Terminus at 9:40 a.m.

Another special train will depart from the Mombasa Terminus at 4:30 p.m.

“Monday, August 31, 2026. The train will depart from Mombasa Terminus at 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2026. The train will depart from Nairobi Terminus at 9:40 a.m. The train will depart from Mombasa Terminus at 4:30 p.m,” Kenya Railways announced.

The additional services provide passengers travelling between Nairobi and Mombasa with more options during the two-day period.

How to book the additional trains

Kenya Railways has urged passengers to remain vigilant when making reservations and use only its official booking channels.

“We urge members of the public to remain vigilant and only book through our official Kenya Railways channels,” the operator said.

Passengers can book online through the Kenya Railways ticketing platform, by dialling *639# or by visiting any Madaraka Express Passenger Service station.

The railway operator has encouraged passengers planning to use the additional services to book early and take advantage of the available trains.

The special services will operate only on the dates and departure times announced by Kenya Railways.
