List of areas set for 8-hour power outage on Friday, July 31
By Steve Ireri, July 30, 2026Kenya Power has announced that parts of Nyeri County will experience an eight-hour power interruption on Friday, July 31, 2026, as the utility company carries out planned maintenance on its electricity network.
In a notice issued on Thursday, July 30, 2026, Kenya Power said the scheduled interruption will affect customers in parts of Nyeri County and is necessary to facilitate network maintenance operations.
The utility company said the affected areas will be without electricity from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, meaning residents and businesses in the listed locations should expect an interruption lasting approximately eight hours.
“Good evening. The listed areas will be under planned power maintenance tomorrow (31th July 2026). The interruption is part of network maintenance. We regret any inconvenience that may occur during the operations,” Kenya Power wrote.
The areas listed for the planned maintenance are Gichira and Kiangacha, with customers in surrounding locations also expected to be affected by the power interruption.
According to the notice, the affected customers include those in Gichira Police, Heheti, Lower Gichira, Kiangacha and adjacent areas.
Kenya Power issued the advance notice to enable customers in the affected areas to make the necessary arrangements ahead of the planned interruption.
The company apologised for any inconvenience that may be caused by the maintenance exercise as it works to improve and maintain its electricity network.
The planned interruption comes as Kenya Power continues to carry out scheduled maintenance activities across different parts of the country, with customers periodically notified in advance whenever planned works are expected to affect electricity supply.
The utility company urged customers to check its latest maintenance schedules for updates on planned interruptions in their respective areas.

The power interruption in parts of Nyeri is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 31, and is expected to end at 5:00 p.m. the same day, after which electricity supply is expected to resume in the affected areas.
