Kenya Power lists areas to experience electricity outage on Saturday, August 15

The electricity distributor said the interruption will take place in Katungu from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm as part of its planned maintenance schedule. Customers in the affected areas have been advised to plan for the outage during the stated hours.
“Good evening. The listed areas will be under planned power maintenance tomorrow (15.08.2026),” Kenya Power said on Friday, August 14, 2026.
The affected area is Katungu in Kisumu County, under the Western Region. Kenya Power listed Gatungu Primary, Kencel Towers and Gatungu Market among the places that will experience the interruption. Adjacent customers in the area will also be affected during the maintenance period.
The planned interruption is scheduled to begin at 9.00 am and end at 4.00 pm on Saturday. Kenya Power has included the affected locations in its planned power interruptions dated August 15, 2026. The maintenance means customers in the listed areas will be without electricity during the stated period.
Kenya Power shares energy-saving tips
The planned outage comes after Kenya Power shared advice on simple ways households can reduce their electricity bills. The power distributor encouraged consumers to look at their daily home routines and check whether appliances are running when they are not needed. It said small changes in energy use can help reduce monthly costs.
The advice was shared in a message posted on X on August 12, 2026. Kenya Power encouraged consumers to pay closer attention to their energy habits at home. The distributor said making small changes can help households manage their electricity costs.
The distributor also encouraged consumers to rethink their laundry routines, particularly how they press clothes. Flat irons use a substantial amount of power because of their high heating wattage. Kenya Power pointed to ironing as one of the household activities where consumers can make changes to reduce electricity use.
The advice comes as Kenya Power continues to share ways households can manage their energy consumption. Meanwhile, customers in Katungu and nearby areas listed for Saturday’s maintenance will need to make arrangements for the planned interruption. The outage is expected to run for seven hours, from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm.
