Kenya Power lists areas to experience blackout on Tuesday, May 5
By William Muthama, May 4, 2026Kenya Power has announced planned electricity maintenance works set to affect parts of several regions across the country on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, with outages expected in parts of Kiambu, Kitui, Nyeri, Embu, Makueni and Kisumu counties.
In a statement issued on Monday, May 4, 2026, on X, the utility firm said the interruptions are part of routine maintenance aimed at improving network reliability and service delivery.
“Good evening. The listed area will be affected by planned power interruptions tomorrow (05th May 2026),” the company stated.
Kiambu and Kitui affected
In Kiambu County, areas around Kwa Maiko and Osho Millers will experience power interruptions from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The affected zones include Kwa Maiko Shops, Osho Millers, Mega Pipes, Kambui Secondary School, Mitahato, Muchana Estate, Manila, Ndondo Estate, Oakland Estate and Riuru Water, among others.

In Kitui County, Mbondoni and Migwani areas will also be affected within the same time window. Locations set to experience outages include Mbondoni Market, Thoka, Migwani, Kwa Ciku, Tulia, Muthale, Kyambo, Kavoloi, Kasue, Kasevi, Musuani, Kathumulani, Mwanzilu and nearby customers.
Nyeri and Embu outages
In Nyeri County, Kagumo High School and Kirichu areas will experience outages between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.
Affected locations include Kagumo High School, Kirichu Market, Ndurutu, Kiganjo Estate, Gachika High School, Kang’ong’a and Wangi Water.
In Embu County, areas including Kivaa, Masinga and Kaewa will be affected from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Affected customers include Kivaa Market, Kyaani Primary, Masinga KenGen camps, Kyangosi Market, Masinga Market, Kitui Water, Mutwambaki and surrounding areas.
Makueni and Kisumu included
In Makueni County, parts of Sultan Town will experience interruptions from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The affected areas include Major Muiu Quarry, Kasikeu Market, Kandolo Secondary, Kavuthu Market and Nduluni Market.
In Kisumu County, Chemursoi and Katolo areas will face outages between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. Affected locations include Nyakocho School, Kaliti, Masongo, Katolo, Sare and surrounding villages.
