Kenya Power lists areas to be affected by blackout on Sunday, May 17

Kenya Power has announced planned electricity maintenance that will affect several areas across Nairobi County, Machakos County, and parts of the Western region on Sunday, May 17, 2026.

According to the notice, the power interruption is part of scheduled maintenance works that will take place at different times during the day.

The company shared a statement on Saturday, May 16, 2026, on X, saying, “Good evening, please receive the list of areas scheduled for planned maintenance tomorrow(Sunday, 17.05.2026).”

Nairobi County

In Nairobi County, the affected area will be parts of South C from 9.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m.

Areas set to experience the blackout include Ole Sereni Hotel, The Curve, Next Gen Mall, Eka Hotel, Bandari Phases 1 and 2, Real Estate, Highway Estate, Amboseli Estate, Dafam, College of Insurance, Bellevue Apartments, Ministry of Fisheries, Mtihiani House, African Airline Association, Stockwell Homes, Kenya Re Apartments and adjacent customers.

Machakos County

In Machakos County, the interruption will affect parts of Athi River from 9.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m.

Areas listed include Petrocity, Athi 55 Business Park, Mlolongo Phase 3, Kathangaita, Sabaki Anthena, Signature Mall and adjacent customers.

Western region

In the Western region, parts of Kisumu County will experience electricity interruptions in different areas.

The Chiga and Kasese areas will be affected from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Areas listed include Chiga Kalusi, Chiga Mission Hospital, Rweya, Landi Matope, Maawa, Obumba, Kasarani, Bungu, Kasese and adjacent customers.

Chemelil Town and Awasi Town will also be affected from 9.00 a.m to 4.00 p.m. The areas include Chemelil Town, Awasi Town, Pala, CEABUD Quarry, Oneno Nam, Office Ngeny, Achego, Got Nyithindo, Karapul, Wanganga, Rock Land Stone Field Quarry, Nyakunguru, Ngula, Gogni Rajope Quarry and adjacent customers.

Another scheduled interruption will affect Tabmul from 11.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m. The affected areas include Tambul, Bugon, Kapsasur, Emit, Chemutia and adjacent customers.

Kenya Power advised customers in the affected areas to plan during the maintenance period.

On Friday, May 15, 2026, an electricity supply interruption hit parts of Kakamega, Uasin Gishu and Kwale counties. The utility firm, however, apologised for the inconvenience caused by the blackout.
