By , July 11, 2026

Kenya Power has announced a planned power blackout that will hit several parts of Kiambu County on Sunday, July 12, 2026. The state utility firm confirmed that the outage will last for eight hours.

The utility firm shared the update on its official X account on Saturday, July 11, 2026, to inform the public beforehand.

In the social media post, the firm noted, “Please be advised that there will be a scheduled power interruption tomorrow, Sunday, 12.07.2026, as outlined in the attached notice.”

The electricity supplier explained that the temporary shutdown is part of regular system maintenance aimed at improving the reliability of the grid for its consumers.

Specific locations affected in Ruiru and Juja

According to the official circular from the power utility provider, the interruption will hit the North Eastern region, specifically focusing on parts of Kiambu County. Residents and business owners operating within Ruiru and its surrounding estates will need to make alternative arrangements for the day.

The blackout will affect Murera Sisal, Murera Coffee, Theta, Matangi-Ini, Hamundia, and Ndarasha. Families and businesses situated around Jujafarm, Juja South Est, Mama Mumbi, and Juja Arhi will also experience the temporary supply cutoff.

Furthermore, several major institutions, business complexes, and prominent landmarks in the area are included in the maintenance list.

These include the GSU Ruiru camp, Ruiru Kimbo, Toll Station, Mugutha, and the Nairobi Institute of Business Studies (NIBS). Commercial entities and facilities such as Alpha Nits, Jetlak, Angels, New Horizons, and parts of Kihunguro Ruiru will be without power.

The scheduled interruption will also extend to Rainbow, Zitech University, Mark Hotel, Ukombozi, Imani Estate, Ruiru Greens, Kenrub, and all adjacent customers in those neighbourhoods.

Maintenance Duration and Customer Support

The maintenance work is scheduled to take eight hours, starting from 9:00 am in the morning until 5:00 pm in the evening. During this period, normal operations relying on electricity will be temporarily halted.

Business operators running salons, barber shops, cyber cafes, and fabrication workshops within these estates are encouraged to plan to avoid unexpected losses. Households are similarly advised to charge their electronic devices and make necessary adjustments before the lights go off.

Kenya Power carries out these routine maintenance exercises to fix faulty supply lines, replace worn-out infrastructure, and boost the overall stability of the national grid.

For any inquiries or emergency reports during the interruption, customers can reach out to the utility firm through the national contact centre lines or use the official USSD code *977# for quick assistance.
