Kenya Power announces blackout in parts of three counties on Friday, July 10
By Steve Ireri, July 9, 2026Kenya Power has announced a scheduled electricity outage that will affect parts of West Pokot, Nyeri and Kiambu counties on Friday, July 10, 2026, as the utility company undertakes planned network maintenance aimed at improving the reliability of power supply.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, July 9, 2026, the electricity distributor said the interruption forms part of routine maintenance operations on its power distribution network and apologised to customers for any inconvenience that may arise during the exercise.
According to the notice, the planned outage will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in all the affected areas.
“Good Evening. The listed areas will be under planned power maintenance tomorrow (10th July 2026). The interruption is part of network maintenance,” it wrote.
West Pokot County
In the North Rift Region, customers in parts of Kodera, Losam and Alale will be without electricity throughout the maintenance period.
The blackout is expected to affect Kodera, Ngotut, Kasei, Losam, Natimeri, Kiwawa, Chelopoy, Alale and neighbouring customers.
Nyeri County
Within the Mt. Kenya Region, electricity supply will be interrupted in parts of Kihora, Gachatha and Kariguini.

Areas listed for the outage include Safaricom and Airtel booster stations, Kihora Primary School, Kihora Village, Gachatha Market, Gachatha Coffee Factory, Kwa Joseph, Kariguini Market, Thandii Village and adjacent customers.
Kiambu County
In the North Eastern Region, residents and businesses in parts of Gitaru, Nyathuna and Cura will also experience an eight-hour power interruption.
The affected areas include Gitaru, Kanjeru, Cura, Muthure, Ruku, Nyathuna, Gikuni, Tingati A, Tingati B and neighbouring customers.
The utility firm also encouraged customers to consult its latest maintenance schedules through its official communication channels for updates on planned outages in their respective areas.
