Kenya Power announces blackout in parts of 2 counties on Monday, May 11
By Steve Ireri, May 10, 2026Kenya Power has announced planned electricity interruptions that will affect several areas in Kericho and Kwale counties on Monday, May 11, 2026, as part of ongoing network maintenance operations.
In a customer update issued on Sunday, May 10, 2026, the utility company said the scheduled outages are intended to facilitate maintenance works aimed at improving electricity supply and network reliability in the affected regions.
“Good Evening. The listed area will be affected by planned power interruptions tomorrow (11th May 2026). The interruption is part of network maintenance,” Kenya Power wrote.
According to the notice, parts of Kericho County under the Central Rift region will experience power interruptions starting from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The affected areas in Kipkelion include Chepseon Market, Kedowa Market, Kipkelion Town, Fort Ternan Market, Barsiele, Liloch, Toroton, Gokul Quarry Kipkelion, Mtaragon, Kamuingi 1 and 2, Makutano Market, Kiploki, Gwitu Village, Mumberes, Mlango Moja, Mlango Tatu, Gatarakwa, and adjacent areas.

Chepseon Mkt, Kedowa Mkt, Kipkelion Town, Fort Ternan Mkt, Barsiele, Liloch, Toroton, Gokul Quarry Kipkelion, Mtaragon, Kamuingi 1 & 2, Makutano Mkt, Kiploki, Gwitu Village, Mumberes, Mlango Moja, Mlango Tatu, Gatarakwa & adjacent customers,” the statement read in part.

Kenya Power further announced that parts of Kwale County under the Coast region will also be affected by the planned blackout between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Areas set to experience the interruption in Diani include Darling, Tukutane, Nairobi Homes, Naivas, Ostrich, Markaz and neighbouring customers.
In the Horohoro area, the outage is expected to affect Horohoro Border Post, Lungalunga Market, Lungalunga Hospital and surrounding customers.

The company advised customers in the affected areas to plan accordingly during the maintenance period, adding that the interruptions are necessary to allow technicians to carry out network improvement works safely and efficiently.
