Kenya Power announces blackout in parts of 2 counties on Monday, December 22

Kenya Power has announced a planned power maintenance that will affect parts of Nairobi and Nyeri counties on Monday, December 22, 2025.

In a notice on Sunday, December 21, 2025, the utility company advised customers to prepare for a temporary electricity outage during the scheduled maintenance hours.

In Nairobi County, the affected areas include Nasra Estate, Bee Centre, Sosion Estate, and part of Kayole Spine Road.

The blackout will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., impacting key establishments such as Mama Lucy Hospital, Naivas Supermarket, Bee Centre, Shell Petrol Station, Shujaa Mall, Soweto Police Station, and Soweto Health Centre, as well as residential customers in the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Nyeri county

In the Mt. Kenya region, parts of Nyeri County, including Kiandere, Gitero, and Karia, will also experience power interruptions during the same hours.

The blackout will affect areas around Karia, parts of Kiamwathi, Kwa Tailor, Gatini, Gitero Market, Gitero Polytechnic, Joma, Muthuaini Secondary School, Muthuaini Market, Muthuaini Coffee Factory, Kiamaguru, Gathima, Tetu TVC, and Kagwathi Market, along with adjacent customers.

This planned maintenance is part of Kenya Power’s ongoing efforts to improve the reliability and safety of electricity supply across the country.
