Kenya Power announces 8-hour blackout affecting parts of six counties on Thursday, September 3
By Dan Kauna, September 2, 2026Kenya Power has announced scheduled blackout notices across parts of Nairobi, Nandi, Nyeri, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, and Kwale counties on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
Posting on its official X handle on Wednesday evening, the electricity provider confirmed that the temporary shutdown is part of routine maintenance work on the power supply grid.
Most of the planned disruptions will run for eight hours, starting from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
Nairobi, North Rift, and Mt Kenya regions
In Nairobi County, several active residential neighbourhoods and business spots will go without power throughout the day. Kilimani residents will face interruptions along Ngong Road, Kindaruma Road, Kabarnet Road, Rose Avenue, Argwings Kodhek, and Chaka Road.
Major commercial spots such as Yaya Centre, Coptic Hospital, Royal Nairobi Golf Course, and local supermarkets including Naivas, Quickmart, and Carrefour fall within the blackout zone.
In Imara Daima, the outage will affect Villa Franca Estate, Kings Millennium, Scion Hospital, Swamirayan Academy, and nearby customers.
Kitisuru estate residents along Tate Close, Kitisuru Road, and Forward Close will also lose power, alongside parts of Huruma, including Kariobangi North, Kiamaiko Slaughter, and Kamunde Road.
Upcountry, electricity will be cut in Nandi County under the North Rift Region from 9.30 am to 5.00 pm. The maintenance will affect Kapsumbeiwa Tea, Kabuti, and St. Elizabeth Secondary School.
Meanwhile, in Nyeri County, the power loss will affect Githungo Primary, Witemere Market, Thegu Estate, Relai Hotel, Chaka Borehole, and Mathina between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm.
Coast region to experience widespread shutdown
Residents and business owners in the Coast Region should also prepare for power interruptions on Thursday. Taita Taveta County will experience extensive shutdowns covering the whole of Voi Town, Moi Hospital Voi, Ikanga, Sagala, and local safari lodges.
SGR Mackinnon station, Bachuma, and Wangala will similarly go dark during the maintenance period.
In Kilifi County, power will be switched off in parts of Watamu and Gede, affecting Gede Special School, Total Dabaso, Gede Ruins, Timboni, and surrounding areas.
Kwale County will not be spared either, with Samburu Town, Samburu Dispensary, Kwale TTC, Nyalani, and Mbita scheduled for maintenance.
Kenya Power has urged affected customers to plan their activities accordingly to minimise inconvenience during the scheduled maintenance hours.
