Kenya Met forecasts rain, thunderstorms across several counties on Friday
By William Muthama, December 19, 2025The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD )has issued a weather forecast for Friday, December 19, predicting rainfall and thunderstorms across several parts of the country.
According to the weatherman’s report, residents in the Highlands, Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, North-Eastern, and South-Eastern lowlands are advised to prepare for wet conditions and possible disruptions.
Strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are expected over Marsabit County, and motorists are urged to exercise caution while driving.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places in the morning, breaking into sunny intervals, with intermittent showers forecasted in the afternoon.
In Nairobi and other highland areas east of the Rift Valley, light showers are anticipated, followed by scattered rains in the morning and occasional afternoon thunderstorms.

Western highlands, including Kakamega, Bungoma, and Kisumu, are also expected to experience showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.
Counties in the North-Western region, such as Turkana and Samburu, will see partly cloudy conditions at night, with mainly sunny intervals during the day and a chance of light morning rain.
Coastal counties, including Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, and Lamu, will experience a mix of showers and sunny intervals throughout the day.

City forecasts indicate maximum temperatures of 32°C in Mombasa and Malindi, 26°C in Nairobi, and 23°C in Eldoret and Kericho.
Minimum temperatures range from 11°C in Kericho to 25°C along the coast. Sunrise and sunset timings vary slightly across the country, with Nairobi seeing sunrise at 06:23 and sunset at 18:35.
