Keiyo South Member of Parliament Gideon Kimaiyo has indirectly said chances are high that the attack on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna during a Kitengela rally over the weekend may have been staged.

In a post on X, Kimaiyo responded to a local TV station journalist who explained what happened during the now-chaotic gathering.

The rally, led by Sifuna under the Linda Mwananchi banner, attracted a large crowd before running into confusion after tear gas was used within the gathering.

Journalist Seth Olale, speaking on the phone during a live broadcast, described what he witnessed.

“The teargas canister was not shot; it appeared to be placed in the middle of the crowd. Smoke started rising from a shopping bag on the ground,” Olale recounted.

The unusual detail about the tear gas emerging from a bag on the ground sparked widespread debate online, with many Kenyans questioning how the situation unfolded.

Reacting to the journalist’s account, Kimaiyo cast doubt on the nature of the incident.

“This is exactly what we’ve been saying. This is what Wamitego does, and then he expects the IG to listen to him? The tactic of staging attacks and then crying for justice is diabolical. It’s a very lazy strategy, especially now that it has been exposed,” Kimaiyo wrote.

His remarks added another layer to an already heated online conversation, with supporters and critics offering differing interpretations of the events.

Amid the chaos, tragedy struck when one man, identified as Vincent Ayamo, was shot dead.

The death was later confirmed by Edwin Sifuna, who mourned him as one of the rally attendees caught up in the confusion.

News of Ayamo’s death shifted focus from the political exchanges to the human cost of the unrest.

Social media users expressed their condolences to his family, with many calling for calm and a thorough investigation into what exactly happened.

The Kitengela incident has left many residents shaken, with questions still lingering about how a peaceful gathering escalated into chaos.

As investigations continue, the spotlight remains on the conflicting accounts, while a family mourns the loss of their loved one.
