KCSE 2025 results cancelled for 1,180 candidates caught in exam irregularities
By Paulette Mboga, January 9, 2026The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has released the 2025 KCSE results, with 1,180 candidates’ results cancelled due to involvement in examination irregularities.
Education CS Julius Migos Ogamba on Friday, January 9, 2026, said the cancellations were made in line with applicable laws and regulations to uphold the integrity of the exams.
“At the conclusion of the KCSE examinations, 1,180 candidates were found to have been involved in examination irregularities; consequently and in line with the applicable law and regulations, their examination results have been cancelled,” Ogamba said.

Despite the cancellations, the overall performance of the 2025 KCSE candidates showed positive results. A total of 1,932 candidates scored straight A’s in the exam, while 270,000 candidates achieved C+ and above, qualifying them for direct university entry.
This year, 993,226 students sat for the exams, up from 962,512 in 2024, marking an increase of 30,714 candidates.
Gender and performance trends
Female candidates continue to outnumber male candidates for the second consecutive year, with 501,214 females compared to 492,012 males. The number of students achieving an overall mean grade A (plain) also increased slightly to 1,932 (0.19%) from 1,693 (0.18%) in 2024.
Candidates can access their individual results online through the KNEC website by entering their index number and any of their names as per the registration data.

CS Julius Ogamba also highlighted government support for learners, noting that Ksh44.2 billion has been disbursed as capitation for all public basic education institutions ahead of school reopening.
“This is the first time capitation has been disbursed before schools opened,” he said, adding that the funds aim to support learners and ensure smooth operations in schools.
The ministry reiterated that maintaining high standards and fairness in examinations remains a top priority. While the cancellation of results affects a small number of candidates, the action reinforces the importance of honesty and adherence to exam rules.
Students and parents are encouraged to access results promptly and prepare for further education based on the published performance data.
