Geoffrey Mosiria forces restaurant manager to clear rubbish in Nairobi CBD

By , February 4, 2026

Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has intervened to have a manager of a restaurant in Nairobi clear rubbish dumped by the outlet on the streets.

Mosiria called out the restaurant for littering the street with its rubbish, stating that its actions amount to impunity and negligence that should not be tolerated in a civilised society.

In a statement on his official social media platforms on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, the head of the customer care department in Nairobi County lamented that some of the problems faced by city residents are actually a result of their own actions, citing the incident.

“Some of the problems we face in our city only require common sense and personal responsibility. How do you run a good hotel, serve customers every day, yet dump garbage right at your own frontage and in the CBD of all places? That is not just negligence; it is impunity and a complete lack of self-discipline,” he said.

Mosiria holds manager to account

Mosiria shared a video as he engaged a manager at the facility, insisting that he would not leave until the rubbish was cleared.

Despite the manager giving his assurance that he would organise for the rubbish to be removed from the street, Mosiria stayed put, forcing the manager to organise for the section of the street near the business premises to be cleared.

The crowd at the scene urged Mosiria to walk the full stretch of the street, claiming that several restaurants along the busy street could also be dispossing their garbage along the street.

What the law says

Mosiria called for responsibility, citing the law and maintained that acts of ignorance and carelessness must come to an end.

“Such acts of ignorance and carelessness must come to an end. The law is very clear: every business owner is responsible for maintaining cleanliness within a 10-metre radius of their premises. Why are we ignoring these laws that are meant to keep our environment clean and orderly?” Mosiria stated.

He emphasised the importance of individual responsibility in making Nairobi safe, clean and dignified for all, adding that compliance with the law is not optional but a duty.

“Cleanliness and order start with individual choices. If everyone decides to do what is right, respect the environment, and take responsibility for their waste, we can easily keep our city clean, safe, and dignified for all,” he added.
