Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is pushing for a dialogue with former President Uhuru Kenyatta to discuss matters of peace and unity in the Mt Kenya region.
The second in command noted that although there has been a lot of mistrust built up over the last year, he is slowly laying out his approach to increase the chances of success.
He said leaders and Mt Kenya tycoons are also simultaneously singing in tune of healing the region that was somewhat divided following the 2022 general elections that saw Uhuru’s preferred candidate Raila Odinga lose.
“Uhuru was fronting Raila Odinga for the presidency but he lost. Regardless, we have decided to embrace him as our respectable son and statesman,” Gachagua said during his interview with a local news outlet.
Adding;
“As leaders from the region, we have also decided to stop fighting him and I’m planning to hold talks with him. I have asked everyone to accord him respect and I’m glad he has also been peaceful.”
While denying division among Mt Kenya leaders, the DP noted the crack may have cratered during the infamous raid of the Kenyatta family’s Northlands ranch in Ruiru.
He said, that as the current top leader, he is determined to mend the existing differences.
“I am at this moment the father of Mt Kenya nation and I can tell you we will be united by 2027,” he said.
Gachagua further noted he is willing to rehabilitate Moses Kuria who has consistently made unsavoury remarks directed to the former president and former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta.
“I personally spoke to the president to give Kuria work in the cabinet. I will talk to him (Kuria) to cease being the bad boy he is. I will challenge him to conform to the demands of the civil and drop his disreputable chatter,” Gachagua said.
