“To the millions of Kenyans, I say thank you. I am greatly indebted to you,” Rigathi Gachagua said.

Family response after court ruling

Earlier, Reverend Dorcas Rigathi reacted after the High Court decision that upheld the impeachment of her husband. She shared a message focused on faith, gratitude, and hope despite the outcome of the case.

She explained that she remained thankful to God and appreciated everyone who had been praying for the family during the legal process. Her message highlighted trust in God’s guidance during difficult moments.

“God is still in control,” Dorcas Rigathi said on Monday, June 8, 2026.

Dorcas also took time to acknowledge those who continued to support them through prayer. She said the encouragement from well-wishers helped the family remain strong as they awaited the court’s decision.

The ruling was delivered on Monday, June 8, 2026, by Justices Eric Ogola, Freda Mugambi and Antony Murima. The High Court upheld Gachagua’s impeachment from office but also awarded him Ksh50 million in damages.

The court found that senators violated his right to a fair hearing during the impeachment proceedings. This formed part of the judgment that led to the financial award.

However, in a later development, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua declined to accept the Ksh50 million compensation awarded by the court. His decision came after the ruling, where the court had acknowledged the violation of his rights during the Senate process.
