Fire breaks out at Yare Plaza in Eastleigh

The incident sparked panic as workers and residents inside scrambled to find safe exits while emergency responders rushed to the scene.
Videos shared widely on social media captured the dramatic efforts to rescue people from the building.
Some occupants were seen being lowered using ropes from windows and ledges while firefighters guided others to safety.

The intense flames and smoke made the evacuation process tense and hazardous, and crowds of onlookers had gathered outside the plaza, watching anxiously as the rescue operations unfolded.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with the sound of alarms, people calling for help, and smoke engulfing multiple floors.
Emergency responders worked tirelessly to evacuate trapped occupants, and fire crews focused on preventing the blaze from spreading to nearby structures.
Authorities are yet to confirm the cause of the fire, but investigations are underway.
Following the incident, Hon. Fuad Hussein, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Airbase Ward in Kamukunji Constituency, issued a heartfelt message expressing his sorrow over the tragedy.
He said he was deeply heartbroken by the fire and could only imagine the pain, loss, and shock faced by the business owners, employees, and families affected.
“I am deeply heartbroken by the fire that erupted at Yare Plaza. I can only imagine the pain, loss, and shock that the business owners and families are going through at this moment. My sincere prayers are with each one of you during this very difficult time,” Fuad wrote.
The MCA acknowledged and praised the bravery of the Nairobi City County Fire Department, describing their efforts to contain the blaze and protect lives as courageous and tireless.
He emphasised that the dedication of the emergency responders does not go unnoticed and called for public solidarity in supporting those impacted.
“I also want to sincerely acknowledge and appreciate the brave efforts of the Nairobi City County Fire Department as they work tirelessly to contain and put out the fire. Your courage and dedication to protecting lives and property do not go unnoticed,” he added.

Hussein also prayed for strength, patience, and ease for everyone affected by the incident and for the protection of all personnel on the ground. He urged the public to stand together in support during this challenging time and commended the professionalism and commitment of the first responders, highlighting the importance of collective care in times of crisis.
“May Allah grant strength, patience, and ease to everyone affected, and may He protect all those on the ground responding to this incident. We stand together in solidarity during this challenging time,” Fuad expressed.
