Expect light rains and chilly mornings till Sep 24, Kenya Met predicts in 5-day forecast

According to the latest five-day forecast issued by the Kenya Meteorological Department valid from September 20, 2026, to September 24, 2026, light to moderate rainfall is expected in several counties.
Weather authorities note that intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are likely to occur in some parts of Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Wajir and Garissa Counties. This means residents in these regions will experience chilly weather that comes and goes throughout the forecast period.
Central highlands and Western region
In Nairobi, as well as neighbouring Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, and Embu counties, mornings will open with light rain before giving way to light showers or sunny intervals in the afternoon.
Night temperatures in Nyandarua County will drop significantly, falling to a low of 5°C on September 21, 2026. Meanwhile, the Lake Victoria Basin and Western Kenya, including Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Kisii, and Nyamira counties, will feature sunny mornings followed by moderate showers during the afternoon and night.
Nakuru and Kericho counties in the Rift Valley are also set to experience light to moderate afternoon showers.
Coastal showers and hot Northern skies
Along the Coast, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, and Lamu counties will start the week with moderate showers on September 20, 2026, before conditions ease into light showers and sunny intervals.
Daytime maximum temperatures along the coastal strip will average between 25°C and 29°C.
In contrast, Northern Kenya will remain hot and mostly dry. Mandera and Turkana counties will record the highest temperatures in the country, reaching up to 37°C. However, Wajir and Marsabit will see light morning rains between September 21, 2026, and September 23, 2026.
The Meteorological Department advises the public to use this five-day forecast alongside daily updates issued by county offices. Staying informed will help residents plan their everyday activities smoothly.
