Eric Wamumbi condemns Baby Shantel’s murder, says crime against children unforgivable
By David Nthua, February 11, 2026Mathira Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi has also strongly condemned the murder of Baby Shantel Waruguru from Kianjogu.
In a lengthy post on Facebook on Tuesday, February 11, 2026, Wamumbi expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the tragic killing of the 9-year-old, calling it a devastating blow to the community.
“I am deeply saddened and outraged by the horrific killing of nine-year-old Shantel Waruguru of Kianjogu, Kirimukuyu Ward,” Wamumbi said.
“This is a tragedy that has shaken our community to its core. I strongly condemn this barbaric crime and express absolute scorn for the perpetrators.”

The MP emphasised that crimes against children are unforgivable, particularly when those entrusted with protection betray that trust.
“Such acts are a stain on our society and an assault on our shared humanity,” he said, highlighting the broader implications for the nation.
Call for justice
Wamumbi noted that society invests heavily in children through education, healthcare, and opportunities, and that any harm to them undermines Kenya’s future.
“Any violence against them is an attack on Kenya’s tomorrow. We must be unequivocal: there is no excuse, no justification, and no hiding place for those who harm innocent children,” he said.

He urged security agencies to conduct swift and thorough investigations, ensuring that justice is served without delay.
“Let the full force of the law prevail,” he said, stressing the importance of accountability.
Support for family and community
To Shantel’s family, Wamumbi extended his heartfelt condolences, urging the community to stand united in protecting children.
“Let us protect our children, speak out, and demand accountability,” he said. “Justice for Shantel.”
The MP’s statement aligns with calls from Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and other local leaders, all demanding decisive action against those responsible.
